Ammonia sensing

Ammonia sensing in Poultry House

The demonstrator is based on significant previous laboratory studies on a sensitive and highly selective optical dye based ammonia sensor. The demonstrator will convert the laboratory system into a compact, battery-powered ammonia sensor system with wireless capability for air quality monitoring in poultry rearing houses. There is no existing competing product on the market that we will deliver the combination of high selectivity, low cost and long sensor lifetime for ammonia sensing.
Preliminary investigations are being carried out on the optical hardware (sensor housing) and sensor dye elements. Standard ammonia gas generating system will also be needed to be established at the RTO for the preliminary testing before the demonstrator is sent to Analox for demonstrator evaluation. The demonstrator will allow Analox to evaluate and verify the instrument performance both in the laboratory and real-life scenarios. The anticipated time to market is around one year after completion of the demonstrator evaluation for full hardware and software quality assurance and comply with various regulatory testing. Analox already manufactures and develops a wide variety of gas sensors (although primarily electrochemical) so this would fit into their existing portfolio.
